Using ABM to Study the Potential of Land Use Change for Mitigation of Food Deserts

Land-use transition is one of the most profound human-induced alterations Earth’s system. It can support better land management and decision-making for increasing yield food production to fulfill needs in a specific area. However, modeling land-use change involves complexity human drivers natural or environmental constraints. This study develops an agent-based model (ABM) use transitions using critical indicators that contribute deserts. The model’s performance was evaluated Guilford County, North Carolina, as case study. inputs include covers, climate variability (rainfall temperature), soil quality, land-use-related policies, population growth. Studying interrelationships between these factors improve development effective policies help responsible agencies policymakers plan accordingly security. illustrates how when individuals communities could make land-cover community’s needs. results indicate effectively monitor changes visualize potential risks over time affected accordingly.
